They used water, salt, 30 cm of rope, a spoon and a plate.
First, they filled two glasses with water, added salt and mixed it well. They added salt till it didn`t dissolve anymore. In this way they had a solution which was saturated with salt.
Next, they dipped two rope ends in saturated solutions. Due to capilarity the water climbed up the rope and collected at the centre
and dripped. The salt accumulated slowly.
In the caves a similar process accurs. Stalactites form in this way.
